spiresandsteeples2017webIt’s a marathon like no other – the Spires and Steeple Challenge 2018 will take participants into the heart of Lincolnshire’s heritage.

The route of the challenge on Sunday, October 14, roughly follows the village-to-village trail from Lincoln Cathedral to St Deny’s Church, Sleaford, which can be tackled as a full or half marathon.

Public footpaths and bridleways are marked through the picturesque villages south of the city in North Kesteven that make up part of the district’s Spires and Steeples Arts and Heritage Trail.

The name Spires and Steeples refers to the spires of churches once used as landmarks to navigate from village to village and to the rural sport of steeplechasing, races from steeple to steeple.

The longer event will start in Lincoln at 8.30am for walkers and 9.30am for runners and the shorter at 11am from Metheringham Playfield Fields while both will finish on Eastgate green outside Sleaford’s National Centre for Craft and Design.
